Overview

Global Residency Days ("the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our app on iOS or Android devices.

Information Collection and Use

Data Storage

All data is stored locally on your device. The App does not transmit, upload, or sync any of your travel data to external servers or cloud services.

Types of Data

The App stores the following information locally on your device:

  • Trip Data: Countries visited, arrival and departure dates, trip notes, and optionally attached photos (e.g., boarding passes, tickets, travel documents). All photos are stored locally on your device as part of your trip records.
  • Settings: Your preferences for notifications, auto-tracking frequency, and tax residency thresholds.
  • Statistics: Calculated values based on your trips (days per country, Schengen days, etc.).

Optional Permissions

Location Services (Foreground and Background)

  • Purpose: To automatically detect your current country when you enable auto-tracking.
  • Background Usage: When enabled, the App can detect country changes in the background (even when the app is closed) to automatically update your trip records when you cross international borders. This is essential for accurate tax residency day counting without requiring manual input.
  • Usage: Location data is used only to determine the country you're in via reverse geocoding.
  • Storage: Your current location coordinates are NOT stored; only the country name is saved.
  • Control: Location tracking is disabled by default and must be explicitly enabled by you in Settings. You can disable it at any time.
  • Frequency: You control how often the app checks your location (Off, Hourly, or Daily).

Camera and Photo Library

  • Purpose: To take photos or select existing photos of tickets, boarding passes, and travel documents as proof of residency.
  • Storage: All photos are stored locally on your device within the app's data. They are never uploaded to any server.
  • Control: Camera and photo access are optional and only requested when you choose to attach a photo to a trip.

Calendar Access

  • Purpose: To export your trips directly to your device calendar (Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or other calendar apps).
  • Usage: Write-only access to create calendar events from your trips.
  • Storage: The App does not read or store your existing calendar data.
  • Control: Calendar export is optional; you can also download ICS files without granting calendar access.

Notifications

  • Purpose: To send you alerts about tax residency thresholds and Schengen limits.
  • Usage: Local notifications only (not push notifications from a server).
  • Control: Notification permissions are optional and can be managed in your device Settings.

Data Security

  • All data is stored using SQLite database on your device.
  • No data is transmitted to external servers.
  • No user accounts or authentication required.
  • No analytics or tracking services integrated.

Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or transmit your data to any third parties.

The only ways your data leaves your device are:

  1. When you explicitly export data (CSV, ICS, or Calendar).
  2. When you share exported files with others (your choice).

Data Control

You have complete control over your data:

  • Export: Export all your data as CSV or ICS files at any time.
  • Delete: Clear all data from the App in Settings.
  • Backup: Since data is local, it's included in your device backups (iCloud, iTunes, or Google backups).

Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app is rated 4+ and contains no age-restricted content.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.

Data Retention

Your data is retained locally on your device until you:

  • Delete the App (all data is removed).
  • Use the "Clear All Data" option in Settings.
  • Manually delete individual trips.

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following system services provided by your device platform:

  • Location Services / Geocoding: For reverse geocoding (converting coordinates to country names). Provided by Apple (Core Location / Apple Maps) on iOS and Google (Play Services) on Android.
  • Calendar Services: For optional calendar export. Uses EventKit on iOS and the Calendar Provider on Android.
  • Notification Services: For optional local notifications.

These services are subject to the privacy policies of Apple and Google.

International Data Transfers

Since all data is stored locally on your device, there are no international data transfers.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access all your data (via the Export feature).
  • Delete all your data (via the Clear Data feature).
  • Control location tracking (via Settings in the app or your device settings).
  • Revoke permissions at any time (via your device Settings).
